Canterbury Food & Drink Festival

This weekend Dane John Gardens in Canterbury became home to the Canterbury Food and Drink Festival.  Most interestingly to me, this was the start of the Kent Green Hop Beer Fortnight as well!

Green hop beer is made from hops that come straight from the fields so it is the freshest beer you can get!  I was lucky enough to try 7 different beers at the festival and The Foundry brewpub - home of Canterbury Brewers.

Here is what I thought of the beers I tried:

The Green Mild by Brew Buddies:
Malt forward. Dark red with little head. Chocolate aroma. Smooth mouthfeel, malty.

East Kent Red Rye by Canterbury Brewers:
Malt forward. Red brown with a creamy head. Light malt aroma. Smooth body, malt warmth but a little bland.

Seriously Saison Green Hop by Canterbury Brewers:
Wheat forward? Light copper, bubbly head. Caramel aroma. Bitter with a sweet wheat background- get rid of the bitter and this would be great

St Thomas Pale Ale by Canterbury Brewers:
Hop forward. Dark yellow, small head. Fruity, possibly pear? Sweet. Fruity, alkaline, creamy with a bitter backbone.
Countryman Green Hop by Tonbridge Brewery:
Malt forward. Chestnut brown with creamy white head. Cereal sweet aroma. Malt flavour with a almost smoky roast linger.
Green Hop Ale by No.18 Yard Brewhouse (Shepherd Neame):
Malt forward. Dark copper with a bubbly head. Grass malt aroma. Herbal taste with some malt.
Special Ops by Range Ales Brewery:
Hop forward. Hazy yellow with a creamy head. Citrusy aroma. Bitter with some citrus with a resin linger.

There was also excellent food on offer - I had a wild boar and apple sausage in a roll from The Wild Food Co. and a salted caramel brownie from Brownie Edit - delish!  I love autumn and all it brings to Kent!!
